Parks & Preserves Around the Brandywine Valley
So many of the pieces I've created for Chadds Ford Jewelry have been inspired by scenery I have experienced while exploring the Brandywine Valley and our surrounding areas. This region is home to incredible parks and preserves that offer thousands of rugged trails, fields, and forests to explore and enjoy. In this article, I wanted to share five of my favorite local hiking spots with you and also show you some photos of the jewelry these magical places have inspired me to create. Cheslen Preserve
ChesLen Preserve is a 1,263-acre nature preserve located in southeastern Pennsylvania, managed by Natural Lands, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining open spaces in our region. The preserve is home to a diverse array of wildlife and plant species, including over 230 species of birds, as well as forests, fields, wetlands, and streams. Visitors to ChesLen Preserve can explore over 12 miles of hiking trails that wind through the rolling hills and scenic vistas of the preserve. Additionally, the preserve offers opportunities for fishing, horseback riding, and picnicking. ChesLen Preserve is an important resource for both the local community and visitors to the region, providing a peaceful and beautiful natural setting to enjoy and explore.
The Laurels
Laurels Preserve is a gorgeous 132-acre nature reserve located in Unionville, Pennsylvania, and owned by the Brandywine Conservancy. The preserve is situated in the heart of Chester County's stunning countryside and is home to a variety of natural habitats, including woodlands, meadows, streams, and wetlands. Visitors to the Laurels Preserve can explore the numerous hiking trails that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and diverse wildlife, including many exciting species like beavers and eastern box turtles. The preserve is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with over 100 species of birds having been observed at the preserve. The Brandywine Conservancy manages and maintains the Laurels Preserve to protect the area's natural resources and provide an educational resource for the community, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers alike.

Brandywine Creek State Park
Brandywine Creek State Park is a 933-acre park located not far from Chadds Ford in Wilmington, Delaware. The park is situated along the scenic Brandywine Creek and features a wide range of outdoor recreational activities. Visitors can hike through over 14 miles of trails that wind through forests and meadows, and along the creek itself. The park also has several picnic areas, a playground, and a disc golf course. Fishing and boating are popular activities on the creek, which is stocked with trout and smallmouth bass. Additionally, the park features historic structures such as the 19th-century Beaver Valley gristmill and the Tulip Tree mansion, which offer visitors a glimpse into the region's past. Brandywine Creek State Park is a beautiful and peaceful destination for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike, offering a range of activities for visitors of all ages.
White Clay Creek State Park
White Clay Creek State Park is a 3,647-acre park located in Newark, Delaware, and features a range of outdoor recreational activities. The park is known for its scenic beauty, with the namesake creek winding through lush forests and meadows. Visitors can explore over 37 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, including a 17-mile paved trail that runs from Newark to Pennsylvania. The park also has several picnic areas, fishing ponds, and places for children to play. In the winter, visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing and sledding. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and numerous bird species, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers. French Creek State Park
French Creek State Park is a 7,730-acre park located in Elverson, Pennsylvania, and is one of the largest state parks in the state. The park features a diverse range of habitats, including forests, meadows, and wetlands, and is home to a variety of wildlife species, including deer, foxes, and numerous bird species. Visitors to French Creek State Park can explore over 40 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park also has several picnic areas, fishing ponds, and a swimming pool. In the winter, visitors can enjoy ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. The park also has a variety of historical structures, including Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, a restored 18th-century iron plantation that offers visitors a glimpse into the region's industrial past. French Creek State Park is a beautiful and tranquil destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a range of activities in a scenic natural setting.

For as long as I can remember, I have wandered through the hills and valleys of Chadds Ford, and marveled at its beauty. In spring and summer, verdant woodlands fill in the gaps between rolling hills, abundant crops, and stone buildings reminiscent of eras that have come before. The Brandywine River winds its way through the region, giving life to the flora and fauna that grace its banks and the surrounding area. In fall and winter, trees flourish into an explosion of reds, yellows, and oranges before dropping their leaves, exposing their rugged, natural beauty underneath. Pines stand proudly all year, but their strength really shines through during the winter months. No matter the season, these images are near and dear to my heart, and the Landscapes Collection is designed to share a few of these special scenes with you.
